Background

Tatso is an African eatery based in Praktiseer, Burgersfort, created around a simple proposition: serving food that feels familiar, generous and unmistakably African.

The brand needed to speak directly to its local community while having enough personality and consistency to grow beyond being perceived as just another neighbourhood food outlet. At its core was an appreciation for the flavours, dishes and shared food experiences that form part of everyday African life.

This thinking gave rise to the brand promise:

“An Authentic African Taste.”

Challenge

he challenge was to create an identity that could capture the character of African food without relying on the visual clichés often associated with “African” restaurant branding.

Tatso needed to feel contemporary yet familiar, accessible yet distinctive. The identity had to work within the energy of a local eatery in Praktiseer while creating a professional foundation from which the business could build recognition, customer loyalty and future growth.

Beyond the logo, the project required the development of a broader brand language, establishing how Tatso should look, sound and communicate across its physical and digital touchpoints.

Outcome

We developed a complete brand identity that positioned Tatso around the experience of authentic African flavour.

The slogan “An Authentic African Taste” became the central expression of the brand promise, communicating exactly what customers should expect while giving the business a clear position within its market.

The visual identity, messaging and supporting slogans were developed as one cohesive system, allowing Tatso to communicate consistently across signage, menus, promotional material and social media.

The result is a brand that feels rooted in Praktiseer and the community it serves, while presenting African food with confidence and contemporary appeal.
